Peter Avery has created many collaborative theater, film and social media projects with older group, Universities and art school students. Trained in theatre design at the Central School of Art he did his apprenticeship as a designer in repertory in Convetry and Hornchurch. After two years as assistant to Edward Bawden he did a post-graduate year at the Royal College of Art and then went to state broadcaster RTE in the Irish Republic where he designed for both television and all the main theaters in Dublin while also teaching in London at the Central School of Art.
Returning to the UK he founded and ran the Barnston Festival in Dorset, art-directed for ZDF in Germany and became a Senior Lecturer at the Central School of Art and Design. From 1979 he pioneered over 60's theatre work while also producing several British premieres notably Eric Rohmer's 'Trio in E' and Werner Herzog's 'Of Walking In Ice.
